Ternary's CEO Speaks in Three Presentations at Best Practices Conference
Exton, PA, September 14, 2006
-- Ternary Software's CEO, Brian Robertson, was invited to speak on several topics at the
2006 Software Development Best Practices Conference, September 11-14th in Boston, MA. In conjunction with other members
of Ternary, Brian spoke on three diverse topics:
-
Brian Robertson, founder and CEO of Ternary Software, presented
“Introduction to Holacracy™: A Framework for Agile Leadership and Decision Making.”
Brian discussed Holacracy™, a system of decision-making and governance that harnesses self-organization
and facilitates rapid adaptation to change. Holacracy fills a gap in most Agile methods, by adding an Agile decision
making process and management structure that values self-organization and integrates with Agile software
development processes. Holacracy adds significant value when applied on a single Agile team, and its fractal
structure can integrate Agile decision-making and leadership across multiple teams, a large department, or an
entire company.
-
Brian Robertson and Alexia Bowers, co-founder and COO at Ternary Software, presented
“Extreme Hiring: A Radical new Approach for Finding the Best Programmers.” Brian and Alexia
explained how traditional approaches to hiring do not reliably find the best programmers - those with talent,
intelligence, and passion for programming. They detailed Ternary's unique hiring process and how it is designed to
attract and find these talented individuals.
-
Brian Robertson presented
“Buffer-Based Planning: Refining the Plan for Each User Story.” Brian introduced Buffer-Based Planning,
a time management system that helps software developers manage risk on a project while keeping in touch with
the real business pressures. He detailed how this system helps focus a development team on delivering the
highest business value per feature.
The annual Software Development Best Practices Conference is held every year in Boston to collate all of the experts in
the software development community. The focus of the conference is to offer practical skills in applying software development
best practices.
